Two campsites in North Wales have been recognized as being among the best places in the United Kingdom to improve mental well-being.
Pitchup, a booking site for camping and caravanning, compiled the list using data on the top locations to escape daily stress and enjoy the great outdoors.
One of the campsites is located in Conwy, and the other in Ynys Mon (Anglesey), according to a report by North Wales Live.
Research has consistently shown the benefits of spending time in nature on mental health. A government study found that people who spend more time in natural surroundings are significantly more likely to report good health and improved psychological well-being.
A recent survey also revealed that a third of Brits feel that camping or caravanning has positively impacted their mental health.
The Ynys Mon campsite on the list, Pengraig Campsite, is a 42-acre Welsh sheep farm turned nature reserve.
The campsite has been operating since 1951 and is known for its peaceful and tranquil setting. Many visitors return year after year to take in the unique surroundings and escape the stresses of daily life.
Dan Yates, the founder of Pitchup, commented on the importance of getting outside and its impact on mental health.
He said that “plenty of research” indicates a correlation between being outside during daylight hours and mental state. He also emphasized the benefits of being outside for both physical and mental health.
Many reviews on the Pitchup website, according to Yates, mention the positive and peaceful effect that a camping or caravanning holiday had on the reviewer’s well-being, highlighting the significant impact that this type of vacation can have.
As the weather gets colder and the days grow shorter, it can be easy to feel down and unmotivated. Taking a break and spending time in nature can be a powerful way to improve mental well-being and reset for the year ahead.
The campsites in North Wales offer a chance to do just that, with stunning natural surroundings and the opportunity to escape the daily grind.
