Planning permission has been granted for the construction of two new glamping huts on a rural property near West Linton, Scotland.
The decision, approved by local authorities in early 2025, enables applicant Lotte Kravitz of Deepsykehead to move forward with expanding short-term holiday accommodations on the site.
The project falls under the Wilderkin business, which offers eco-friendly holiday experiences marketed as “rough luxury” through off-grid accommodation.
According to a supporting statement submitted with the application, the proposed units were designed with sustainability in mind and aim to minimize environmental impact.
“The proposals have been designed with a low environmental footprint in all respects from siting, materials use, services, and energy use to how the huts will be operated,” the statement noted.
The site currently includes a holiday hut that has been in place for approximately ten years, according to a report by Border Telegraph.
This existing structure is set to be removed once the third unit is developed as part of the approved expansion.
Additionally, a separate application has been submitted for retrospective planning permission regarding a glamping pod that was constructed in 2021.
Planners were advised that the new units will align with the natural surroundings and preserve the visual character of the landscape.
“There will be no detrimental impact upon the local landscape. The scale, layout, form, design, and use of external materials are all compatible with, and complementary to, the character of the landscape,” the application stated.
The applicant also committed to enhancing local biodiversity through an ongoing policy of native woodland planting.
Professionals in the outdoor hospitality sector may view this approval as part of a broader trend toward environmentally conscious, small-scale developments that blend with the natural environment.
For site operators and glamping entrepreneurs, the Wilderkin project may serve as a reference point for navigating planning processes that emphasize sustainability, low-impact design, and local ecological integration.
