The Paddock Touring Park Marks a Decade of Growth in County Durham

The Paddock Touring Park in Wolsingham is celebrating its tenth anniversary, marking a decade of growth from a small horse exercise paddock to an established 22-pitch caravan site attracting international visitors.

Since opening in 2015, the park has welcomed travelers from across Europe, including France, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands, drawn by its proximity to North East England’s historic and natural attractions.

According to a report by the Northern Echo, the park’s steady expansion has been a response to increasing visitor interest.

Originally starting with just ten touring pitches, it has since added more spaces, along with a shower and toilet block and family-friendly amenities to enhance the guest experience.

These developments have helped the site attract not only domestic tourists but also international travelers exploring the region.

Industry operators may take note of The Paddock’s ability to leverage local attractions such as Beamish Museum, Kynren, The Auckland Project, Raby Castle, and High Force to create a compelling destination for visitors.

By positioning itself as a base for exploring the region, the park has differentiated itself in a competitive market.

For caravan park owners and operators, The Paddock’s growth underscores the value of gradual, strategic expansion and the importance of catering to diverse visitor demographics.

Its ability to draw international guests highlights the potential for UK touring parks to appeal to a broader audience, particularly as more travelers seek countryside retreats with access to cultural and historical sites.

“Some of our most interesting guests have been those who just turn up unexpectedly in unique vehicles,” says the park’s owner.

This variety of visitors demonstrates the evolving nature of the caravan tourism sector, where unique experiences and flexible accommodations can contribute to long-term success.

As The Paddock marks ten years in operation, its growth serves as a case study for industry professionals looking to expand their offerings and attract a wider range of guests.

Its success reflects the ongoing demand for well-located, experience-driven caravan parks in the UK.
