Scottish Borders Council Approves Linthill Farm Glamping Development

Scottish Borders Council has approved plans for a new glamping development in Berwickshire, marking a step forward for sustainable tourism in the region.

The proposal, submitted by Edinburgh-based Interteviot Properties Ltd, involves the construction of six glamping pods, along with a waste and bike storage facility, on land north of Linthill Farmhouse in Eyemouth.

Linthill Farm Steading, a family-run enterprise, aims to create what it describes as a carbon-negative retreat that both preserves the historical integrity of the steading and integrates modern environmental practices.

According to the supporting report submitted with the application, the location is “ideally situated for people exploring the Scottish Border region, but also within easy reach of the A1 for those traveling farther north.”

The project has received backing from the South of Scotland Destination Alliance (SSDA), which praised the development’s alignment with regional tourism goals.

A spokesperson for the SSDA told the Northumberland Gazette:

“Their mission to transform this former farm steading into a shining example of sustainable tourism where guests can relax and recharge, while doing their part to combat climate change is reflected in The South of Scotland Responsible Tourism Strategy, which is owned and delivered by the private sector and all public agencies, will increase the value of our visitor economy by £1bn and support a further 6,000 jobs.”

The spokesperson added that “the proposed development will provide high quality, aesthetically pleasing accommodation, set within a secluded site at Linthill Farm Steading.

They emphasized that “the development will contribute positively to the local economy and will not detract from the character of the surrounding area or any residential amenity.”

For business owners in the outdoor hospitality and glamping sectors, the approval highlights the growing emphasis on sustainable development within the UK’s rural tourism market.

With local authorities and destination organizations increasingly supporting low-impact accommodation projects, the Berwickshire development reflects a broader industry trend toward balancing environmental goals with economic opportunity.
