Reayrt Vradda Glamping Site to Be Secured Following Business Liquidation

The glamping site at Reayrt Vradda in Port Erin is set to be secured and cleared following the recent liquidation of the operating company.

Port Erin Commissioners announced their intention to take action after the business, which had been running for two years, confirmed its closure at the end of May 2025.

In a public statement, Chair of the Commissioners Hannah Mackenzie said the board would support “all reasonable steps” to ensure the glamping site is made safe “at the earliest opportunity.”

The liquidation process is being managed by CKM Consultants, and the lease is expected to be disclaimed in due course. Once that happens, the lease will revert to Port Erin Commissioners, who will then assume responsibility for the property.

The commissioners plan to install fencing and remove what they have described as “hazards,” “third-party equipment,” and “unauthorised occupation” from the site.

“The board believes the lease will be ‘disclaimed’ in due course by the appointed liquidator,” Mackenzie said to Manx Radio, adding that this process will enable the commissioners to implement further safety and security measures.

The glamping site, developed with the goal of providing outdoor tourism accommodation, now raises questions for outdoor hospitality professionals regarding the long-term viability and management of such ventures.

While no specific details were provided on the cause of the closure, the swift action by the local authority underscores the importance of contingency planning, stakeholder communication, and lease structuring in the event of business failure.

Mackenzie acknowledged the disruption the closure may cause, stating, “The decision wasn’t taken lightly and the board recognises the impact on certain individuals.”

She added, “This has been ‘considered’ to be the most ‘responsible’ and ‘necessary’ course of action which is within the ‘legislative remit’ of the local authority and the public interest.”

The local authority has confirmed it will engage with residents living near the site to understand their concerns and to keep them updated as the process unfolds.

Mackenzie reiterated the board’s commitment to collaboration with the liquidator and transparency throughout the resolution.

“The board remains ‘committed’ to working ‘constructively’ with the liquidator to make sure the site is returned to a ‘safe and orderly condition,’” she said.

For stakeholders in the glamping and outdoor accommodation industries, this incident highlights the importance of robust lease agreements, clarity on post-liquidation responsibilities, and early engagement with local authorities in cases where operations may be disrupted.

The Commissioners have indicated that further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
