Luxury camper van rental provider Rambling Rover expanded its fleet to 15 vehicles following rapid business growth since launching in March 2022 near Slane, Ireland.
Founded by Paul Dunne to address a post-COVID market demand, the Rathdrina, Bow Park-based enterprise initially operated seven manual vehicles before upgrading to premium camper vans, primarily Swift models valued at more than €100,000 each, according to an article by 95.8 LM FM.
Dunne highlighted that nearly 70% of first-time visitors express a desire to buy a camper van, but he advises them to rent multiple times before committing to a costly purchase.
“A €50,000 budget doesn’t buy a lot of camper van,” Dunne explained, noting that hiring allows customers to skip hefty tax, maintenance, and insurance costs.
This rental-first approach generated a 70% repeat customer rate for the company. Designed to accommodate four to six people, the fleet is transitioning predominantly to automatic transmissions to enhance driver ease.
All fleet vehicles remain under 3.5 tonnes, allowing drivers 25 and older with a standard category B car license to operate them.
Each rental includes full third-party insurance with options for comprehensive and European travel coverage, enabling guests to depart from the Slane depot for destinations across Ireland or continental European countries, including France, Austria, and Portugal.
To ensure a stress-free journey, every renter completes a 45-minute familiarization session covering vehicle amenities, spatial awareness, and operational controls prior to departure.
Beyond traditional vacationers, the business established a specialized niche supporting families living with autism by supplying tailored, sensory-friendly vehicle configurations with customized lighting.
Dunne aims to partner with local autism charities to broaden access to these customized travel opportunities as an alternative to crowded airport environments.
