A North Wales holiday park has received formal planning approval to refurbish and expand its adventure village, in a move that will introduce several new recreational features aimed at enhancing visitor amenities.
Presthaven Sands Holiday Park, located near Prestatyn and operated by Haven, was granted planning consent by Flintshire County Council following a proposal submitted in 2024.
The development plans include an aerial adventure and zipwire, climbing wall, bungee trampolines, inflatable arena, seating areas with LED screens, a “kids and tots” play zone, a designated “bark yard” for dogs, a sand pit, a briefing room, and additional storage areas.
The project will also extend the current play area, according to a report by Rhyl, Prestatene & Abergele Journal.
The approval is subject to conditions, including that development must begin within five years and align with details provided in the planning documents.
One requirement was the submission of a biosecurity risk assessment, which Haven has since completed and which has been accepted by the council.
The proposed redevelopment is concentrated in a central area of the park between the existing entertainment and swimming pool complexes.
According to planning agents Planware, the new investment aims to modernize and expand recreational offerings.
“The proposal represents a major investment by Haven into the Presthaven Sands Holiday Park to enhance existing facilities and the customer experience,” the supporting statement read.
It also noted that “this area is currently underutilised given its prominent location within the park, and accessibility to main facilities.”
Presthaven Sands is one of more than 50 holiday parks operated by Haven across the UK, employing around 17,000 people and welcoming over four million guests each year.
The Prestatyn location alone attracts thousands of annual visitors and offers various amenities, including mini golf, food outlets, and a container bar. These existing features will remain in place as part of the new plans.
In a statement, Planware described the initiative as “sustainable development and investment into an existing operational holiday park.” The adventure village will be available exclusively to guests already staying at the site.
This development follows recent approval for a JD Wetherspoon pub to open at the same park, further signaling Haven’s continued efforts to upgrade its facilities.
For professionals in the outdoor hospitality sector, this approval reflects broader trends in the industry toward enhancing on-site amenities to drive guest satisfaction and increase repeat bookings.
It also highlights how established operators are making strategic investments to optimize underutilized spaces within their parks, which may inform similar approaches at other resorts aiming to remain competitive in a growing market.
