A caravan park in southern Powys filed a planning application to expand its facilities by adding 21 new static pitches. Borders Hideaway Holiday Home Park, located near Hay on Wye, seeks permission from Powys County Council to accommodate more holidaymakers and enhance its offerings.
The application, which was validated on October 9, is currently under review by the council’s planning department.
The proposal marks a significant step for the Borders Hideaway Holiday Home Park, a business known for its accommodations, including static caravans, touring caravans, and camping facilities. With a five-star rating from Visit England and multiple awards, the park aims to provide additional long-term holiday accommodation, allowing guests to secure pitches for repeat visits.
Owned by the same family since 2007, the park’s management has expressed their commitment to investing in the site for long-term growth. The owners plan to roll out the expansion in phases, focusing on enhancing the visitor experience while boosting the local economy.
According to an article published by Powys County Times, prior to submitting the planning application, the owners engaged in pre-application discussions with Powys County Council. This initial engagement included a visit from a council planning officer, who assessed the site and provided feedback.
The council’s response indicated that the proposed change from a campsite for tents to an extension for static caravans was likely to “be supported by Development Management should an application be submitted.”
Originally, the application sought to add 33 new pitches. However, following council advice, the owners revised their proposal. “As a result of the positive pre-application advice received from Powys Council, requirements of technical reports, and comments received from the withdrawn application for 31 static caravans, a revised final layout has been agreed,” the council noted.
The approach of Borders Hideaway Holiday Home Park highlights the importance of consulting with the council early in the planning process. For campground operators, this proactive approach ensures that proposed developments align with local regulations and community needs. By collaborating with planning officials, businesses like Borders Hideaway Holiday Home Park can refine their proposals, address any concerns, and adapt to recommendations, leading to more successful outcomes for the project.
