Tranwell Farm Holidays, an eco-friendly holiday park near Morpeth in Northumberland, was named the best in the region at the Destination North East England Tourism Awards on March 19. The annual ceremony, now in its 24th year, recognized the park in the Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year category.
The family-run farm, cared for by the same family for more than 60 years, has expanded its offerings since 2022 to include a variety of glamping accommodations.
Options range from traditional grass pitches and spaces for caravans or campervans to a shepherd’s hut for two, a camping pod, and two woodland lodges with private log-fired hot tubs.
The park provides guest experiences designed to complement its rural setting. Visitors can meet rare breed lambs, participate in bottle feeding, and, in some cases, witness a birth.
The park’s location within an official “dark sky” area allows for stargazing, with stargazing kits available for hire, including binoculars, hot water bottles, and rugs. Telescopes can also be rented to enhance the viewing experience.
Nearby Morpeth, a historic market town less than a 10-minute drive from the park, offers additional visitor attractions, according to Mirror. The town features a traditional high street with a mix of chain and independent shops, as well as the Sanderson Arcade, which houses upscale boutiques.
Carlisle Park along the River Wansbeck provides a riverside walk and access to historic buildings, including Morpeth Court, now functioning as an antiques center, café, and holiday apartments. The Morpeth Chantry, a medieval house once used for church services, is home to a bagpipe museum that occasionally hosts live performances.
The area also offers access to Northumberland’s unspoiled beaches. Blyth Beach, approximately 30 minutes from the park, has sand and shingle areas, a long promenade, and colorful beach huts.
Council water quality ratings are “excellent,” making it suitable for swimming and surfing. Cambois Beach, nearby, features sand dunes and footpaths, with limited facilities but opportunities for walking, dog walking, and fishing for species such as flounder and cod.
For operators in the outdoor hospitality sector, Tranwell Farm Holidays’ recognition underscores the potential value of combining traditional camping with curated glamping experiences and nature-based activities.
Emphasizing local heritage, experiential offerings, and proximity to towns and beaches can enhance guest appeal and diversify revenue streams in the private park sector.
