Northumberland National Park in England has completed improvements at Hareshaw Linn as part of the Welcoming Park for All project, funded by the North East Combined Authority through the Rural Asset Multiplier Pilot Programme (RAMP).
According to an article by Northumberland Gazette, the initiative aims to enhance popular sites for both visitors and local communities, ensuring greater accessibility for a diverse range of people.
Hareshaw Linn, known for its scenic woodland walks, cascading waterfalls, and rare plant life, is the first location to benefit from the project.
The improvements include upgraded parking facilities, designed to accommodate more visitors while reducing disruptions for local residents during peak times.
Tony Gates, Chief Executive of the Northumberland National Park Authority, highlighted the significance of the site, describing it as a place of “tranquil beauty” where people can connect with nature.
He emphasized that the enhancements would allow more visitors to experience the area’s unique landscape as spring approaches.
Cllr Glen Sanderson, Cabinet Member for Rural, Coastal, and Environment at the North East Combined Authority, underscored the project’s focus on accessibility.
New facilities include designated parking bays for disabled visitors, provisions for electric vehicles, and improved access for cyclists.
He praised the careful approach taken to preserve the peaceful nature of the site while making it more welcoming to all.
Cllr John Riddle, the local ward member, acknowledged the longstanding parking challenges in the area and expressed confidence that the improvements would ease congestion and benefit both residents and businesses.
The project represents a significant investment in outdoor recreation and sustainable tourism, reinforcing Northumberland National Park’s commitment to preserving natural beauty while making it more accessible to all.
