North Wales Tourism Launches Campaign to Highlight Unspoiled Hiraethog Region and Boost Local Economy

In a strategic move to diversify its tourism offerings, North Wales is spotlighting Hiraethog, a less-trodden region rich in natural beauty and adventure.

The campaign, spearheaded by North Wales Tourism and financially backed by the Clocaenog Wind Farm Fund, aims to draw more domestic and international visitors, thereby stimulating the local economy and easing the influx to more frequented tourist spots.

Hiraethog, a region spanning over 230 square miles, has often been overshadowed by popular destinations like Yr Wyddfa mountain. The campaign seeks to change this narrative by showcasing Hiraethog’s unique blend of natural beauty and thrilling activities.

Through a bilingual campaign, which includes a dedicated website, blogs, newsletters, and leaflets, visitors are guided to explore this hidden treasure, according to a report by The Freepress.

The campaign introduces visitors to a range of attractions. These include the world’s deepest overnight glamping accommodation at Go Below Underground Adventures, go-karting at GYG Karting, husky sled dog rides at Mynydd Sleddog Adventures, and water sports at Llyn Brenig.

Hiraethog’s offerings cater to a wide range of interests, from adrenaline-pumping experiences to serene walks.

Hiraethog also serves as a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The arrival of a breeding pair of Ospreys in 2021 has added a new dimension to the region’s biodiversity. The area is replete with opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing, and wildlife watching.

Accommodation options are diverse, ranging from hotels and B&Bs to camping sites, ensuring a comfortable stay for all visitors.

At the heart of the initiative is a drive to foster a strong sense of local identity and community. The campaign encourages local businesses to collaborate and celebrate the culture and heritage of Hiraethog.

The ultimate goal is to entice visitors to discover Hiraethog’s charm and spend their money locally, thereby contributing to employment and prosperity in the area.

Hiraethog’s unveiling comes in the broader context of North Wales’ reputation as a destination for outdoor adventure activities, beautiful beaches, thrilling mountain scenery, and rich cultural heritage.

Hiraethog fits seamlessly into this vibrant tourism landscape, offering unique attractions such as trampolining in deep caverns and surfing on inland lagoons.

The compact nature of the region allows travelers to explore diverse attractions within a short span. From World Heritage sites to unspoiled landscapes, North Wales offers something for everyone. The region also boasts independent shops, steam train adventures, and a wide range of dining options, adding to its allure.

The appeal of camping, caravanning, and outdoor experiences resonates strongly with the offerings in Hiraethog. The concept of “Outjoyment,” a blend of “outdoors” and “enjoyment,” encapsulates the joy derived from being immersed in nature. Hiraethog provides the perfect base to experience these feelings.

The National Camping and Caravanning Week (NCCW) underscores the physical and mental health benefits of spending time outdoors. Hiraethog’s alignment with these values makes it an ideal destination for campers, caravanners, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a healthier and happier lifestyle.

The campaign to promote Hiraethog represents a significant step towards diversifying North Wales’ tourism offerings. By spotlighting this hidden gem, the region is poised to attract a new wave of visitors eager to explore and enjoy all that Hiraethog has to offer.
