Norfolk Glamping Plans Delayed Due to Concerns Over Increased Traffic

As per a report, plans for a new glamping scheme on the outskirts of a village in Norfolk (United Kingdom) have been put on hold.

The North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has delayed deciding on two glamping pods at Shrublands Farm due to concerns over the unclear information provided in the application.

The NNDC’s development committee was still determining the number of days a year the pods would be in use, which led them to ask the applicant to provide more clarity.

The Craft Lane farm currently operates as a caravan and camping site 28 days a year, but there are fears that the new glamping scheme could be open year-round, leading to a potential increase in traffic on the narrow country roads.

According to a Norfolk Live report, the pods would feature self-contained holiday accommodation, including bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen facilities.

Planning officials at NNDC recommended against the scheme, stating that it would cause harm to the Norfolk coast area of outstanding natural beauty and “likely give rise to conditions detrimental to highways safety.”

Despite this, the residents supported the plans, with Alistair Mackay from the Northrepps parish council saying that the scheme would benefit local businesses and create jobs.

However, an NNDC officer raised concerns about the potential impact on the roads if the glamping pods were in operation all year round.

Councillor Richard Kershaw also emphasized the importance of timing, calling for clarity from the applicant on the days the pods would be open.

The committee agreed to defer the plans until further information is provided.
