A major expansion has been approved for Fortway Farm Leisure and Fishery near Stoney Cove in Leicestershire, as Blaby District Council has given the green light for 50 new gravel camping pitches.
According to an article by Leicestershire Live, the project, led by site owner Matthew Rowe, will double the number of existing pitches and expand the site’s offerings in response to growing demand for leisure and tourism accommodations in the area.
“It will expand the established camping and caravan business,” said Mr Rowe, noting that the location just minutes from Stoney Cove is popular with visitors for camping, caravanning, and fishing. The site already includes a fishing lake and supports both leisure and tourism use.
In addition to the new pitches, the plans also include an internal road, a children’s play area featuring a bike track and play equipment, and dedicated nature and wildlife reserve spaces.
The current building with toilet, shower, and washing facilities has received retrospective approval for continued use, while a new out-of-season caravan storage area will also be added.
Car parking capacity on the site will be doubled from 25 to 50 spaces. Despite the expansion, employment levels at the site will remain unchanged, with two full-time and one part-time staff continuing their roles.
The council attached 17 conditions to the approval, including the stipulation that the 50 caravan and motorhome pitches are for holiday use only and may not serve as a person’s sole or main residence.
