The National Caravan Council (NCC) has announced its formal support for the Back British Holidays campaign, joining other industry voices calling on the UK Government to take immediate steps to prevent further erosion of the country’s domestic tourism sector.
The NCC, which represents approximately 700 businesses across the caravan, motorhome, holiday park, and residential park home sectors, issued its endorsement on April 22, 2025.
Its support adds weight to growing concerns over the future of UK staycations, particularly amid rising costs and shifting consumer trends.
The campaign is warning of a potential 32% decline in domestic holiday bookings, which could lead to a £23.2 billion reduction in visitor spending.
Alicia Dunne, deputy director general of the NCC, said the campaign’s goals align closely with the interests of its members.
“We’re really pleased to put our support to the Back British Holidays campaign, which aims to highlight and celebrate a vital part of the UK economy – our wonderful domestic tourism sector and especially holiday parks and our leisure vehicle industry,” said Dunne.
The Back British Holidays campaign is advocating for a series of policy recommendations, including stronger promotion of domestic tourism, targeted financial support for small businesses, and improved infrastructure to support sustainable travel.
It also calls for Government collaboration to address inflation and rising operational costs, which continue to affect businesses in rural and coastal destinations.
“Any decline in domestic holidays puts jobs, livelihoods, and businesses at risk,” Dunne said in a report by out&about Live.
“By backing the campaign, we’re calling on Government decision-makers to actively protect and promote the UK holiday sector and our great British staycation. We are also urging our members to support the campaign too.”
For business owners in the outdoor hospitality, glamping, and RV sectors, the NCC’s involvement signals an opportunity to engage in broader industry advocacy efforts.
The campaign’s focus on green tourism and local empowerment may also open avenues for future investment and development in tourism zones throughout the UK.
With over 300,000 jobs tied to domestic tourism and a £31 billion annual contribution to the UK economy, industry stakeholders are watching closely as calls for policy action grow louder in advance of the summer holiday season.
