King Charles Opens New Glamping Village at Sandringham Estate

King Charles has introduced a new glamping experience at the Sandringham Estate, opening a safari-style accommodation village during the British summer holiday season.

The development features 15 safari tents located within the Sandringham Estate Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite in Norfolk, offering visitors a chance to stay on the royal grounds with modern amenities.

Each tent accommodates five to six people and is equipped with practical comforts such as wood burners, microwaves, TVs, showers, refrigerators, kettles, hobs, and Wi-Fi.

The two- and three-bedroom tents also provide outdoor decked areas with awnings designed for barbecues and group gatherings.

Positioned in Glucksburg Woods on a 25-acre site, the accommodation is a short drive from Sandringham House, the King’s country residence.

Guests also have access to facilities including deluxe shower rooms, a play area for children, a communal fire pit for toasting marshmallows, and woodland trails.

A nearby pitch supports a pop-up takeaway van offering food options such as fish and chips, pizzas, and curries. The site further incorporates sustainability measures, with two new toilet block buildings powered by solar panels.

The initiative follows recent enhancements to the estate, including a revamp of The Folly, now operating as a guesthouse. “It’s all change at Sandringham under King Charles’ watchful eye,” says HELLO!‘s Homes editor, Rachel Avery.

“First, we had the revamp at The Folly, which is now a lovely guesthouse, and now, the monarch has opened a glamping area. His Majesty is a savvy, switched-on businessman, and this is a lucrative move for the royal family. It’s also lovely for members of the public to spend longer at this special royal estate.”

The launch comes as the estate issued warnings to visitors regarding a wasp problem, with reports of pest control measures being implemented earlier this summer. Sandringham House and gardens remain open to the public seven days a week from March to October.

For outdoor hospitality professionals, the Sandringham project highlights the growing trend of luxury camping experiences being integrated into established tourism destinations.

The addition of glamping at a historic estate demonstrates how operators can diversify offerings to attract new visitor segments, extend guest stays, and create higher-value experiences.

Sustainability features, such as the use of solar panels, also illustrate ways to align luxury accommodations with environmental considerations.
