Kessingland Beach Holiday Park in Suffolk has submitted plans to East Suffolk Council for a new outdoor dining area and catering unit, part of ongoing upgrades at the site.
The proposal, lodged earlier this year by Paul Robinson Partnership (UK) LLP on behalf of Parkdean Resorts Limited, outlines the introduction of an “all new containerised catering unit” and accompanying external seating area within an existing courtyard.
If approved, the development will include a paved dining space near the swimming pool, festoon lighting, new cladding on the poolside building, and a bin store.
According to The Lowestoft Journal, the project would see the introduction of a Joes American Grill unit serving takeaway items such as smash burgers, loaded fries, fried chicken, and smoked hot dogs.
The proposed dining area would cover approximately 107 square meters and replace existing grassed sections with resin paving.
“The proposed containerised catering unit will house commercial kitchen equipment, which will be used to prepare takeaway meals,” the application stated.
“This proposal, although modest in scale, will enable the applicant to continue their ongoing programme of site improvement work – as required to keep the site attractive and relevant to customers. The proposal site has been identified with a view to supporting activities in proximity to the caravan park’s ‘core’ buildings and swimming pool.”
Earlier in 2025, the holiday park was upgraded from a three-star to a four-star rating following a VisitEngland quality assessment.
The latest project is part of broader efforts to modernize facilities and enhance the visitor experience. East Suffolk Council is expected to make a decision on the application in the coming weeks.
For holiday park operators and industry professionals, the proposal highlights a wider trend of reinvestment in food and beverage facilities as a way of improving guest satisfaction and site competitiveness.
Onsite dining options have become an increasingly important factor in attracting repeat visitors, particularly in family-oriented parks where convenience and varied amenities play a role in booking decisions.
