John Fowler Holidays Acquires Ruda Holiday Park from Parkdean in Multi-Million Pound Deal

John Fowler Holidays has completed the acquisition of Ruda Holiday Park in Croyde, North Devon, from Parkdean Resorts in a multi-million-pound deal finalized on Wednesday, June 25.

The transaction concludes weeks of speculation and marks a significant development in the UK holiday park sector, with John Fowler Holidays now operating 13 parks across the South West and South Wales.

The sale includes ownership of the 300-acre Ruda Holiday Park, featuring 817 pitches for static caravans, touring and tent camping, and a glamping village.

The park, which also includes a new tropical pool and flume, a supermarket, six food outlets, and multiple bars, was previously owned by Parkdean Resorts for 23 years.

According to North Devon Today, the deal also includes ownership of Croyde’s blue flag beach, known for its UNESCO-designated dunes and popularity among local residents and visitors.

Martyn Fowler, managing director at John Fowler Holidays, said: “This is a landmark day for our business. To acquire one of the most iconic holiday parks in the country is a real achievement. Holidays are all about location, and it doesn’t get much better than this.”

”Ruda will play a big part in the future of our development. We are looking forward to the challenge of building on its considerable success whilst being committed to ensuring the park remains a cherished destination for new and returning visitors for years to come.”

The company has a long history in the region, starting in 1953 when John Fowler placed a single caravan near Newquay. Since then, the company has expanded steadily and was previously active in Ilfracombe and Combe Martin.

Ollie Fowler, property director, highlighted the significance of the beach acquisition, saying:

“We know just how important Croyde beach is to everyone in North Devon, with its UNESCO-designated dunes and golden sands. To be custodians of Croyde beach is an honour for us.”

”This strategic purchase marks a significant milestone in our firm’s ongoing expansion and commitment to providing exceptional holiday experiences in some of the UK’s most sought-after destinations.”

Parkdean Resorts CEO Steve Richards said the sale supports their long-term goals: “The sale aligns with our long-term strategy, by enabling us to reinvest the proceeds into enhancing our existing parks and supporting future growth at a time when the UK staycation market is strengthening.”

He added, “We’re proud of the legacy we leave in Croyde and are confident that John Fowler will continue to serve holiday homeowners, guests and the wider community with the same dedication and care.”

The transition is set to occur before the summer peak season. Guests with existing bookings at Ruda will be contacted by John Fowler Holidays to ensure continuity. Staff and visitors have been assured of a smooth handover.

For business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector, the acquisition underscores an emerging trend of strategic consolidation, as operators seek to strengthen their portfolios in high-demand coastal regions.

It also highlights the importance of location-specific assets such as beaches and well-equipped facilities in maintaining competitiveness in a maturing UK staycation market.
