Hendra Holiday Park in Cornwall has announced plans to open a new year-round facility, the Newquay Rocks Family Activity Centre, with a target launch date in spring 2026.
The multi-million-pound development will include a family climbing wall, soft play area, gym, and a flexible space for community events. Located within the grounds of the award-winning holiday park near Newquay, the project is being partially funded through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
According to the park’s management, the new centre is part of a wider strategy to extend its operating season, diversify revenue streams, and create sustainable year-round employment.
Additional infrastructure improvements are also planned, including upgraded parking, improved lighting, and enhanced security, which are expected to support the park’s existing amenities—including the Oasis Fun Pool—by allowing them to operate beyond the current peak season.
Will Dexter, Group Finance Director at Hendra Holiday Park, told The Packet:
“The project is set to create new full-time jobs, upskill staff, and boost the local economy by up to £5 million annually. By extending the trading season, it will address employment and visitor fluctuations while maintaining a sustainable approach.”
”Designed with low-carbon principles, the development aligns with environmental priorities and supports responsible long-term growth for both the business and the community.”
”Crucially, the project helps reduce seasonal dependency and pressure on summer tourism without increasing peak visitor numbers. It offers attractive off-peak activities and provides the local community with year-round access to affordable, safe leisure options.”
”Facilities will support youth groups—including a new Scout group—and host family-friendly activities in a multi-use venue.”
One of the key community partners involved is Scouts Cornwall, which will use the new facility as a local base. James McIntyre, lead volunteer of Scouts Cornwall, said:
“Scouts Cornwall are so happy to be working with Hendra Holiday Park on this new, exciting development.”
”We are hopeful that with the creation of this new space, and the recruitment of new adult volunteers, we will be able to start a 3rd Scout Group in the wider Newquay area when the building project is complete in spring 2026. We would like to thank Hendra for their ongoing community support and for giving us this potential opportunity.”
For business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector, this development presents a case study in year-round revenue generation through diversified amenities.
By reducing the impact of seasonal fluctuations and integrating with local community initiatives, Hendra’s approach may offer a replicable model for other parks looking to stabilize operations and drive sustainable growth.
