Hartington Hills Embraces Growth with Multi-Purpose Events Barn

Hartington Hills, a Peak District holiday park offering camping and glamping accommodations, has secured planning permission for an events barn, marking a step forward in its recovery from a fire that destroyed essential infrastructure in June 2024.

The approval allows the business to integrate event offerings into its operations, with a focus on workshops and activities that complement its existing hospitality services.

The fire resulted in significant damage, leading to a temporary closure that prompted the business to reassess its future plans, according to a report by Buxton Advertiser.

With planning permission granted on February 14, Hartington Hills is moving ahead with reconstruction, with the goal of completing the new barn by spring 2026.

The initial phase of the project involves rebuilding the space that houses heating and hot water systems, with the remainder of the structure set for completion over the winter of 2025.

Once finished, the new barn will serve as a multi-purpose space for activities such as yoga workshops, candle-making sessions, and children’s events.

“Achieving planning permission to use our new barn for events is incredibly important. We’ve wanted to offer events to our customers for a long time, and now it’s finally possible,” said site manager Amy Dillon.

She emphasized that, despite the challenges posed by the fire, the business remains focused on long-term growth. “We’ve been trying to look forward with positivity since the fire, and this planning permission definitely feels like a silver lining.”

For business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector, Hartington Hills’ approach highlights the importance of adaptability in the face of setbacks.

Rather than merely restoring its previous facilities, the business has leveraged the opportunity to expand its offerings and diversify revenue streams.

By incorporating events and workshops, the park can appeal to a wider audience and increase off-season engagement—strategies that can benefit other operators looking to enhance guest experiences.

As the project moves forward, Hartington Hills plans to collaborate with local artisans, instructors, and businesses to curate a range of events.

“We hope to hold conversations with local artisans, teachers, and businesses who might be interested in hosting a workshop or event here,” Dillon added. This initiative not only broadens the park’s appeal but also strengthens connections with the local economy.

Established in 2011, Hartington Hills has built a reputation for its diverse accommodations, including camping, caravanning, luxury glamping, and country cottages.

The addition of an events barn further solidifies its position as a multi-faceted outdoor hospitality destination, offering business owners in the industry a case study in resilience and strategic expansion.
