Glendale Holiday Park Plans Pool and Gym Upgrade Under Park Holidays Ownership

Glendale Holiday Park in Port Carlisle, Cumbria, has submitted plans to Cumberland Council seeking permission to add new leisure amenities, including an indoor swimming pool and fitness gym.

The proposal, filed by Park Holidays, outlines the construction of a new single-story building near the park’s main entrance to house the facilities.

According to planning documents, the new building would also feature a reception area, a launderette, and a small shop proportionate to the park’s size. The company said the structure would be designed to “fit in to the surroundings” while modernizing the guest experience.

Park Holidays, which recently acquired the long-standing site, said the improvements aim to enhance Glendale’s appeal and contribute to the region’s visitor economy.

“Facilities were very limited and outdated,” the company noted, adding that the upgrades would help attract more visitors and encourage the “growth of the local tourism.”

According to a report by the BBC, the company also emphasized the project’s potential to create local jobs.

“In line with the expansion of the park’s amenities, there will be an increased demand for staff to manage its operations year-round, thereby generating numerous employment prospects for local residents,” the planning statement said.

Glendale Holiday Park has operated since 1959 and currently offers a mix of static caravans, touring caravan spaces, and camping pitches. The proposed amenities represent one of the first major investments in the site under Park Holidays’ ownership.

Cumberland Council is now reviewing the application, and public consultation on the project is open until 21 November 2025.

If approved, the development would align with a wider trend of modernization across the UK’s outdoor hospitality sector, where operators are increasingly investing in on-site facilities such as pools, gyms, and retail areas to extend the season and appeal to a broader customer base.

For campground and holiday park operators, Glendale’s proposed upgrade highlights how facility enhancements can support guest satisfaction, operational growth, and regional tourism development.
