Fernwood Glamping has been recognized as one of the top 150 Outstanding Sites for 2024 by Campsites.co.uk. Nestled in the heart of Ringwood and only 20 minutes to Bournemouth and the coast, the site features a “rustic shepherd’s hut and a traditional gypsy caravan.”
The business, launched by Rachel Hannam in 2016, was inspired by a stay in a gypsy van in Cornwall. “I just thought ‘this is lovely’,” Rachel recalled, as reported by Daily Echo on August 7.
For four years, Rachel balanced her glamping business with her teaching job before committing to it full-time. Despite operating for eight years, the glamping property has maintained just two units on the site to preserve its unique character.
The shepherd’s hut features an indoor wood burner and an outdoor fire pit. The 1930s gypsy van also includes a wood burner and fire pit, along with access to a nearby summer house with a deck that overlooks a large pond.
“Spaced over 25 metres apart, the shepherd’s hut and gypsy van are both perfect for two adults, but can also accommodate two young children, up to aged 10. The hut and van can be booked together for two couples or families,” Fernwood Glamping stated on its website.
In the shepherd’s hut overlooking fields often grazed by deer, this accommodation is ideal for two but capable of accommodating a family of four, includes a bench seat that converts into a bed for children and an additional bunk that can be set up over the main bed.
Another aspect of the shepherd’s hut amenities. According to its website, it is fully equipped with essentials, including bed linen, children’s sleeping bags, towels, and towelling robes for stays of two or more nights. Guests will find tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and biscuits, along with mugs, glasses, and wine glasses.
For warmth, the hut features a woodburner and an outdoor fire pit, with supplies for both. Additional facilities include outdoor seating, a compost toilet near the hut, a shared-use flush toilet, and a solar shower cubicle, with hot water available as needed.
Although Wi-Fi is not available, mobile phone reception is accessible in the garden for most networks, allowing guests to recharge devices using plug sockets in the hut.
