Fairlawns Hotel and Spa, located in Aldridge, West Midlands, has submitted a long-term redevelopment proposal that outlines a 15-year masterplan aimed at transforming the property into a destination venue.
The site, situated approximately 12 miles from Birmingham, is preparing for a phased development that includes both recreational enhancements and accommodation expansion.
The proposal, which has been submitted to Walsall Council through an Environmental Impact Assessment, is structured into four distinct phases.
These plans were prepared by architectural firm Djogs, which noted that the initiative is a response to changing market conditions, evolving customer expectations, and increased environmental awareness within the leisure and hospitality sector.
In the first phase, Fairlawns intends to construct a new entrance to the main hotel building, relocate the reception area, and create new glass corridors connecting the hotel and spa facilities.
According to Birmingham World, this stage also includes an extension to the existing ground-floor pool and the development of a landscaped courtyard to enhance the guest experience.
Phase two will involve the removal of the current tennis court, which will be replaced by an electric vehicle car park. This stage also features the construction of two padel courts and the installation of solar panels to improve the site’s energy efficiency.
In the third phase, plans include the construction of a new low-rise leisure retreat, designed to offer additional recreational opportunities for visitors. Additional EV parking spaces are also planned during this phase.
The fourth and final phase proposes the construction of nine glamping cabins. These self-catering units are intended to provide family-oriented accommodations on-site and tap into the growing trend of luxury camping in the UK.
According to Djogs, “The aim of this long-term plan is to invest and improve over the next 15 years to ensure continued success, both as a business and employer, and a destination venue.”
For outdoor hospitality professionals, this development underscores the growing demand for integrated guest experiences that combine wellness, sustainability, and unique accommodation options.
The inclusion of glamping pods highlights continued interest in alternative lodging that complements traditional spa and leisure services, presenting potential partnership or inspiration opportunities for operators in similar markets.
