Elche Approves Construction of €1.3M Four-Star Camping Resort

Elche’s Town Hall has approved the necessary environmental and construction permits for the development of Las Lomas de Balsares, a new four-star camping resort located in the Balsares district.

The project, led by developer Parks to Relax based in Albatera, represents a €1.3 million investment and has been under planning for six years.

The planned resort will span 36,000 square meters, with a constructed area of 3,858 square meters. It will accommodate up to 450 guests, or 725 when including visitors to the terrace areas.

According to a report by EuroWeekly News, the resort includes 60 designated RV plots and 90 additional accommodation plots comprising 48 cabins and 42 tent sites.

Facilities will include three swimming pools, a central service building with reception, on-site restaurants, sports zones, parking areas, and a washing station for both cars and recreational vehicles.

The project was initially denied approval in 2019 due to concerns over potential disorganized development in the area. A revised plan was submitted in 2021, leading to regional environmental clearance in 2024.

According to town hall documents, the updated design emphasizes environmental sustainability and responsible land use. A total of 2,540 square meters will be allocated to mobile homes, cabins, bungalows, and tents.

The RV area is scheduled to open during the summer of 2025, marking a significant milestone in the resort’s phased development. The full resort aims to blend traditional camping, glamping, and RV tourism.

For industry professionals, Las Lomas de Balsares represents a noteworthy case study in balancing tourism development with sustainable practices and long-term urban planning.

The project also highlights a potential model for addressing issues such as informal RV parking in urban spaces, a challenge faced by many municipalities with growing outdoor tourism demand.

The resort is positioned to contribute to local economic activity and enhance tourism infrastructure in the Elche area, supporting broader efforts to promote eco-friendly tourism options across the region.
