A Northumberland hospitality business has added a glamping component to its rural accommodations as part of its effort to diversify guest offerings and attract new visitors.
The Doxford Group, based in Northumberland, has introduced four luxury yurts at The Tempus, located on the Charlton Hall Estate near Alnwick. The new accommodations are set to welcome guests beginning June 26, with nightly rates starting at £135 for two people.
Positioned on private decks with views of the surrounding countryside, the yurts are dog-friendly and designed to appeal to a broad range of visitors, including walkers, couples, and families.
The new glamping experience joins The Tempus’ existing facilities, which include 48 bedrooms, The Orangery restaurant, and a Tipi Bar.
The site, which originally opened as a 15-bedroom boutique hotel in May 2023, now has capacity to accommodate up to 100 guests across weddings, events, and leisure stays.
The addition of glamping units aligns with wider hospitality trends that blend natural surroundings with upscale amenities.
Richard Shell, owner and director of The Doxford Group, described the expansion as a continuation of the brand’s focus on unique and comfortable guest experiences.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this new chapter at The Tempus with the addition of our luxury yurts,” Shell told Bdaily.
“They offer guests something truly special — an opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Northumberland countryside without sacrificing comfort.”
Shell emphasized the property’s location near popular attractions such as Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh, and the Northumberland coastline. “Our goal is to celebrate and share the charm of Northumberland by creating unforgettable stays that reflect the character and beauty of the area,” he said.
As part of broader development efforts, the estate has also introduced a new children’s playpark, which opened in June.
The move enhances The Tempus’ appeal to families and reflects a growing interest in multi-generational travel options within the glamping and outdoor accommodation sector.
The new yurts may also position The Tempus to capture seasonal demand from domestic and international tourists visiting Northumberland, a region that continues to attract attention for its historic sites and coastal scenery.
The offering may appeal to hospitality operators exploring hybrid models that incorporate both traditional lodging and nature-based stays.
Shell added, “As Northumberland continues to grow as a must-visit destination, we want to offer guests a relaxing retreat where they can unwind in luxury while immersing themselves in the landscape. Whether seeking adventure, history, or simply a moment of serenity, our aim is to provide the perfect base for those exploring this iconic region.”
The yurts are now open for bookings, with stays beginning from June 26.
