Dornoch Caravan and Camping Park in East Sutherland received approval from Highland Council to expand with six yurts. The park, situated on Common Good land, will use an 850 square meter area to host the yurts from March to October.

The council’s decision, dated July 18, specifies that the yurts can only be used seasonally. “The yurt structures hereby approved shall be for seasonal use only. For the avoidance of doubt, the yurts may be sited between the months of April to September and cleared from the site outwith this period,” the decision notice stated, as reported by The Northern Times.

The new yurts, described by the park as “18ft handcrafted yurts,” will accommodate up to four people each. They will feature a double bed and two fold-out single futons. New for 2024, Rainbow’s End Yurts will debut at Dornoch Caravan and Camping Park. Each of the three yurts, named Rowan, Poppy, and Daisy, will be set on private decks along the banks of Dornoch Burn, just a five-minute walk from Dornoch Beach.

According to its website, these yurts will feature a “natural, mystical fairytale aesthetic” with glowing lanterns. The yurts will offer modern conveniences, including an electric supply and a small kitchen equipped with a tabletop oven, kettle, and toaster. Additionally, the private outdoor decks will feature gas BBQs and outdoor dining furniture, allowing guests to enjoy long summer days, and sunsets.

Toilet and shower facilities are located just a two-minute walk away in the caravan park. Guests will be provided with a key fob for access to these facilities, ensuring privacy and comfort.

“Rainbow’s End Yurts will truly be magical escape for all the family, and we’re very much looking forward to welcoming you,” the caravan park said on its website.

In addition to its amenities, the property has been honored with the 2024 Traveller’s Choice Award by TripAdvisor for the third consecutive year. Each year, TripAdvisor highlights travelers’ favorite properties worldwide, based on reviews and ratings from the past year.

The approach of Dornoch Caravan and Camping Park underscores the importance of offering diverse accommodations to cater to a wide range of guests. By introducing unique lodging options like handcrafted yurts, the park not only enhances its appeal but also aims to boost occupancy rates and guest satisfaction.
