Dales Bike Centre Adds Glamping Pods to Expand Accommodation Offering

A well-known cycling and hospitality hub in the Yorkshire Dales has expanded its accommodation offerings with the addition of luxury glamping pods, supported by a loan from Allica Bank

Dales Bike Centre, based in Fremington near Reeth, launched the new glamping units at the beginning of July as part of a broader effort to meet rising demand for premium, self-contained stays in the area.

The family-run business, operated by husband-and-wife team Stu and Brenda Price since 2009, has established itself as a popular destination for cyclists, walkers, and visitors seeking an active getaway in the Swaledale region.

Its services include bike hire, guided rides, a full-service workshop, and a café known for its locally sourced menu. Accommodation had previously included bunk rooms and a self-contained loft unit, but planning restrictions had limited earlier efforts to expand further.

The new glamping pods, which opened this month, feature king-size beds, en-suite shower rooms, kitchenettes, and private seating areas.

Positioned with views of the surrounding countryside, the units are intended to appeal to couples, cyclists, and walkers seeking comfort along with access to the outdoors.

Brenda Price said, “We’ve always wanted to offer something that blends our love for the outdoors with a bit of luxury. The pods are warm, comfortable and self-contained – ideal for cyclists, walkers or couples looking to unwind with a slice of cake and some great Yorkshire air.”

Funding for the development was arranged through Allica Bank, whose relationship manager Andy Castle worked closely with the Prices throughout the process.

“Allica really understood what we’re about – it’s not just a business, it’s our life’s work,” Brenda told TheBusinessDesk. “Andrew took the time to get to know us, the area, and our vision. This next chapter wouldn’t be happening without them.”

Castle noted, “Dales Bike Centre is exactly the kind of business Allica is here to support – rooted in the community, full of passion and ideas, and ready to grow. Stu and Brenda have created something really special, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to help them take this next step.”

The connection between Allica Bank and Dales Bike Centre was facilitated by Jon Shipton of Confianza Advisory, who said the development reflects the couple’s long-standing commitment to hospitality and community-based tourism.

“Now that the development is complete, so many more customers will be able to enjoy these wonderful facilities, set in such a beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales,” Shipton said.

For outdoor hospitality operators, the expansion illustrates the ongoing market potential for elevated, low-footprint accommodation options that integrate into existing businesses.

Particularly in regions popular with activity-based travelers, the addition of glamping units can help diversify income, extend guest stays, and appeal to a broader range of visitor expectations.
