Coverack Camping Offers Low-Impact Camping Experience Near Historic Fishing Village

Coverack Camping, located at Penmarth Farm above the village of Coverack on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula, is preparing for its 2025 season with a continued focus on eco-friendly operations and maintaining its long-standing reputation as a simple, back-to-nature campsite.

The site, which has operated as a campsite for more than 50 years, opens annually from the beginning of April until the end of October.

The 7-acre campsite is divided into six fields separated by Cornish hedges, providing privacy and shelter for campers. It offers a mix of grass pitches, electric hook-up spaces, and premium pitches with sea views, along with Celtic Longhouse tents and a pod tent for visitors seeking pre-erected accommodations.

Facilities are designed around low-impact principles, including solar-thermal showers with electric backup, 12 compost toilets, washing-up areas, and a covered communal space equipped with USB charging points, internet access, and a freezer.

The site is powered by solar PV with battery storage, with mains electricity as backup.

Ben and Georgia Roskilly previously ran Penmarth Farm before handing operations to their nephew Jake Roskilly and his wife Annette. The couple has pledged to retain the relaxed and informal atmosphere that has drawn repeat visitors while making incremental upgrades.

On their website, they said: “We hope to maintain the relaxed, informal atmosphere that so many campers have cherished over the years while upgrading the facilities, making the campsite more eco friendly with each year the planting of native trees in the hedgerows to encourage more wildlife and extra shelter.”

For outdoor hospitality operators, Coverack Camping illustrates the growing consumer appetite for eco-conscious travel and the demand for campsites that balance simplicity with essential amenities.

The investment in sustainable infrastructure, such as solar power, composting systems, and hedgerow biodiversity initiatives, offers a model that small and mid-sized operators can consider, as guests increasingly value sustainability when choosing holiday destinations.

Coverack village, within walking distance via a path known locally as Lover’s Walk, provides essential services including a store, pub, cafés, and restaurants, along with attractions at the beach and harbour.

With its long-established operations and commitment to environmentally responsible upgrades, Coverack Camping highlights how family-run campsites can remain competitive by emphasizing sustainability and local integration while retaining a traditional camping experience.
