Cardiff Locals Open Eco-Conscious Glamping Site in Gwaelod Y Garth

A new glamping site has opened in the hills of Gwaelod Y Garth, Wales, offering guests a tranquil, off-grid experience just 20 minutes from Cardiff.

Garth Glamping, established by Cardiff locals Gerwyn and Jordan, aims to strike a balance between natural seclusion and modern comfort, situated on farmland that has been in Gerwyn’s stepfather Clive’s family for over 80 years.

The site features furnished bell tents designed with rustic touches and bohemian flair, alongside dedicated campervan pitches for those arriving with their own vehicles.

Each tent includes amenities such as fire pits, access to a communal rustic kitchen, a proper shower block, and outdoor recreation spaces including a nature play area and reading corners.

Garth Glamping distinguishes itself with a deliberate off-grid approach: there is no WiFi, encouraging guests to unplug and enjoy the natural environment.

The experience emphasizes simple pleasures like stargazing, open-fire cooking, and outdoor leisure. “This is a place to unplug, slow down, and actually hear the birds singing,” the team shares in its promotional materials.

According to It’s On Cardiff, the business integrates eco-conscious practices, including solar lighting, reduced use of plastic, and the provision of eco-friendly toiletries.

Recycling facilities are available on-site, and visitors have the option to purchase BBQ or breakfast packs, celebration add-ons, or gift vouchers.

Positioned near Fforest Fawr’s woodland walks and the Gwaelod Inn, the site is expected to attract both Cardiff locals and travelers attending summer concerts or seeking weekend getaways in nature without venturing far from the city.

For professionals in the outdoor hospitality sector, Garth Glamping serves as an example of how locally rooted projects can cater to urban-adjacent markets.

The site’s blend of sustainability, heritage storytelling, and minimalist digital access aligns with a growing segment of guests seeking experiential, low-tech stays.

Operators may find value in how Garth Glamping uses its proximity to urban centers while creating a nature-focused product that encourages disconnection and calm.

With Wales continuing to grow as a destination for domestic travel, particularly among eco-aware tourists, glamping businesses positioned near cities may find opportunities in replicating this model, combining rural aesthetics, easy accessibility, and community-based management.
