The Mid Wales Tourism Awards 2024-25 celebrated excellence in the region’s tourism and hospitality industry, recognizing businesses and individuals for their outstanding contributions.
The ceremony, held on December 10 at Gregynog Hall in Tregynon, near Newtown, highlighted the achievements of businesses across Powys, Ceredigion, and Southern Eryri (Snowdonia).
Some winners will advance to represent Mid Wales at the Wales National Tourism Awards in spring 2025, per the Mid Wales Tourism Awards news release.
Among the prominent winners in the outdoor hospitality sector, Canvas & Campfires of Llanwnnen, Lampeter, received two awards: Best Glamping or Quirky Accommodation and the Accessibility and Inclusivity Award.
The glamping site is known for its luxury safari tents, including accessible options, and its dedication to inclusivity. “We are really delighted to have won the two awards and we are looking forward to representing Mid Wales in the national final in March,” owners Ellie Waters and Dan Neale expressed their pride in the awards.
“The awards are well organized and showcase the high-quality tourism businesses in Mid Wales. We are proud to be part of the awards.”
Woodlands Caravan Park in Devil’s Bridge, Aberystwyth, won Best Camping or Touring Park. The park was recognized for its well-maintained facilities and commitment to customer satisfaction.
Owners Georgina Hewitt and Alfie Chism shared their surprise and gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the hard work invested in the site over the years.
Meadow Springs Country & Leisure Park in Trefeglwys, opened in 2022, was named Best Holiday Park.
The low-density touring and holiday home park has quickly earned a reputation for blending modern amenities with the natural beauty of the Trannon Valley. Facilities manager Clive Bowen highlighted the award as validation of their recent investments and efforts.
Other winners included Plas Estate in Llangoedmor, Cardigan, which took home Best B&B, Guesthouse or Inn and Best Dog Friendly Business.
The estate’s luxurious accommodations and thoughtful dog-friendly policies have made it a standout in the region. Kath Austin, representing Plas Estate, described the recognition as a reflection of their dedication to providing exceptional guest experiences.
Bryn Tanat Hall in Llansantffraid was awarded Best Self-Catering Business. The five-star estate offers diverse accommodations and amenities, including a wellness spa and tennis courts, making it an ideal destination for group getaways.
Owner Susan Martin expressed her excitement about receiving the award during their first year of participation in the competition.
The awards also celebrated broader tourism excellence across various categories. The Vale of Rheidol Railway in Aberystwyth was named Best Visitor Attraction for its heritage steam railway and recently developed museum.
Mountain Bike Wales received the Best Activity Award for its tailored multi-day adventure tours, and the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd was recognized as the Best Event, celebrating its 120-year history.
Special recognition was given to Heart of Wales 7s, a sports and music festival based in Llanidloes, for its contributions to community development and mental health advocacy.
The National Showcaves Centre for Wales, Dan yr Ogof, won the Environmental Sustainability Award for its pioneering efforts in energy self-sufficiency and wildlife conservation.
Organized by MWT Cymru, with support from the Mid Wales Regional Tourism Forum and Visit Wales, the awards aim to highlight the thriving tourism sector in the region.
MWT Cymru Chairman Rowland Rees-Evans congratulated all winners and finalists, emphasizing the quality and innovation they bring to Mid Wales tourism.
“We had fantastic entries this year and these awards showcase the best of the best in Mid Wales,” Rees-Evans said. “Hopefully, the winners will go forward and do well in the Wales National Tourism Awards early next year.”
