Camp de Rêves, an eco-friendly glamping site in St Pierre du Bois, has been awarded Guernsey’s first-ever King’s Award for Enterprise in the sustainable development category.
Owners Danny and Jane Barnes received the award during a presentation ceremony held at Government House on Tuesday evening.
The King’s Award for Enterprise is regarded as a royal endorsement for the United Kingdom’s most outstanding businesses, recognizing achievements across categories including innovation, international trade, and sustainability. Winners are permitted to display the official award emblem and flag for five years.
Camp de Rêves was among 198 companies across the UK and its territories recognized in 2025. The business had been announced as Guernsey’s first-ever recipient of the award in May, marking a milestone for the island’s small business community.
According to a report by the BBC, the citation from the King’s Award described the site as one that “uses eco-friendly practices and materials, minimizing environmental impact while offering a luxury experience.”
Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Cripwell, who presented the award, said:
“I was delighted to present this award to Danny and Jane Barnes, who richly deserve this very special accolade. This is a first for Guernsey, and I am confident that, on the back of Camp des Rêves’ success, many more of the excellent and innovative businesses we have in Guernsey will enter for the King’s Award for Enterprise in the future.”
For professionals in the outdoor hospitality industry, Camp de Rêves’ recognition highlights how sustainability practices can be a competitive advantage and a marketing differentiator.
Eco-friendly measures such as the use of renewable materials, energy-efficient infrastructure, and responsible waste management are increasingly becoming part of the standard for premium glamping operations.
Recognition from national programs like the King’s Award signals the growing importance of environmental accountability in the sector and its role in appealing to both environmentally conscious travelers and local regulatory bodies.
