Butlin’s Skegness Caravan Park Expansion Recommended for Approval

Plans for a large holiday lodge and caravan development next to Butlin’s Skegness resort have been recommended for approval by East Lindsey District Council’s Planning Committee.

The proposal, brought forward by Butlin’s Skyline Ltd, will be considered at a committee meeting on September 4.

The outline application seeks to use approximately 33.3 acres of agricultural land west of the existing resort for up to 440 static lodges and caravan bases.

A central facilities building is also included in the proposal, featuring reception and sales offices, food and beverage outlets, a multi-function venue, a swimming pool, entertainment spaces such as an arcade, and a shop.

According to the planning statement, the project “would allow the creation of a new high-quality caravan development including central facilities and pedestrian and cycle links to the existing Butlin’s Skegness Resort.”

It added that the scheme “offers an opportunity to build upon the existing economic importance of Butlin’s Skegness to the East Lindsey economy.”

According to InsiderMedia, the development is projected to generate up to 50 full-time equivalent construction jobs per year, along with an additional 10 indirect roles annually during the build phase.

Once operational, Butlin’s forecasts an increase of 591,300 visitor nights, equating to approximately 152,395 unique visitors annually.

In its report, council planning officers recommended approval, noting that the scheme “would have a positive contribution to the local economy, local employment and the tourism economy of Ingoldmells and Skegness.”

For professionals in the outdoor hospitality and caravan industries, this development reflects wider market trends in scaling resort offerings with adjacent lodging and leisure facilities.

By adding accommodation linked to an established tourism brand, the project highlights how parks and resorts can diversify their services to extend visitor stays, increase regional economic impact, and meet demand for mixed-use facilities that combine accommodation, recreation, and amenities.

This model may offer lessons for operators considering expansion strategies or collaborations with larger tourism anchors.
