The Touring Club Suisse (TCS) recorded a successful 2025 season, reporting around 900,000 overnight stays across its network of campsites.
The organization announced on Tuesday that camping memberships also rose by 4% from the previous year, reaching 28,700 members, marking a new record for the group.
According to TCS, the strong performance was supported by a steady stream of bookings throughout the summer and an extended camping period into autumn.
“As in the previous year, the summer of 2025 was characterized by high bookings,” the organization said, adding that favorable weather conditions during the sunny autumn weeks kept pitches occupied until nearly the end of September. The brief rainy spell in July did not significantly deter visitors, suggesting that consumer demand for outdoor accommodation remained resilient despite variable weather patterns.
TCS highlighted that this strong season came despite the closure of its large Gampelen campsite in the canton of Bern. The organization noted that domestic visitors continued to form the majority of guests, though their share declined slightly.
According to a report by SWI swissinfo.ch, roughly 70% of all visitors were from Switzerland, compared with 75% two years ago.
Meanwhile, international visitation increased, with about 13% of guests coming from Germany and 5% from the Netherlands, followed by visitors from France and the United Kingdom.
Most TCS campsites are scheduled to close for the season by mid-October. However, several locations—including those in Flims, Lugano-Muzzano, Olivone, Samedan, Sion, and Solothurn—will remain open throughout the winter to accommodate year-round travelers.
For outdoor hospitality operators across Europe, TCS’s results underscore the sustained strength of the camping sector, even in the face of unpredictable weather and operational challenges such as site closures.
The continued growth in memberships and the diversification of guest origins may indicate an expanding market for both domestic and international visitors seeking flexible, nature-based accommodation options.
