Motorhomes and Campervans Lead Visitor Interest at 2025 International Caravanning Show

Motorhomes and campervans have emerged as the most sought-after vehicles among visitors to the 2025 International Caravanning Show, currently taking place at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue until Sunday.

A survey conducted during the first weekend of the event found that 75% of attendees looking to acquire a new vehicle showed a preference for motorhomes (40.51%) and campervans (34.48%), while only 25% expressed interest in traditional caravans.

The data reflects a broader market shift in Spain’s caravanning industry, where integrated models—vehicles that combine driving and living spaces—are becoming increasingly popular.

Figures from the Spanish Association of the Caravanning Industry and Commerce (ASEICAR) indicate that in 2024, nearly 85% of new vehicle registrations were either motorhomes or campervans, totaling 11,820 units evenly split between the two categories.

The survey also highlights the growing importance of family travel within the sector, with 72.4% of respondents saying their chosen vehicle would be used for trips with partners and children.

This aligns with ASEICAR’s observations that while campervans tend to appeal to couples with moderate budgets, motorhomes are favored by more experienced caravanners who require additional space and have higher spending capacity.

Accessories remain a key draw for show attendees, followed by exhibits featuring tiny houses, tents, and trailers. This year’s show occupies 34,000 square meters across halls 2 and 3, hosting more than 700 models from major brands.

Campervans, in particular, have seen a significant increase in representation, expanding to around 5,000 square meters of exhibition space compared to previous editions.

Emerging trends identified by the survey include an increasing interest in vehicle customization, sustainability, and low-consumption models. There is also growing attention toward electric motorization, smart technology integration, and automation (“domification”) within new motorhome designs.

For professionals in the outdoor hospitality and caravan park industries, these trends suggest shifting consumer expectations toward flexible, technology-enhanced travel experiences that accommodate families and environmentally conscious travelers.

Holiday park operators and rental providers may find opportunities in aligning their offerings with these evolving preferences, such as expanding amenities for motorhomes and campervans or incorporating electric charging infrastructure to support future demand.

The 2025 International Caravanning Show, organized by Fira de Barcelona with the support of ASEICAR and the Gremi d’Empresaris del Caravaning de Catalunya (GREMCAR), continues to serve as a major European meeting point for the caravanning industry.
