Ospitalità Italiana Awards Highlight Growth and Quality in Abruzzo Tourism

In a recent ceremony organized by the Chieti-Pescara Chamber of Commerce, 43 tourism and hospitality businesses across the provinces of Chieti and Pescara were awarded the “Ospitalità Italiana” quality certification, recognizing their commitment to service excellence, environmental sustainability, and the promotion of local identity.

Among them, Camping Dimore Montane, located in Roccamorice, stood out as the highest-rated campsite in all of Italy under this certification system, earning two out of three crowns as well as the prestigious green distinction for environmental practices.

The awards were presented as part of a broader initiative by the Italian Chamber of Commerce system to identify and promote high-quality tourism services throughout the country.

Speaking at the award event, Chamber President Gennaro Strever said:

“Abruzzo has an extraordinary heritage: a mosaic of unique landscapes, gastronomic excellence and sincere hospitality. We believe that quality, attentive services, and respect for the environment are a right for those who live in these places and for those who choose to visit them.”

According to VirtùQuotidiane, the selection process began with 65 applications, of which 56 were admitted for evaluation and 43 ultimately certified.

In total, two facilities received two crowns, and eight were recognized with the green certificate for their environmentally responsible practices. Evaluation criteria included quality of service, territorial promotion, identity, and market visibility.

The Ospitalità Italiana program, established in 1997, initially served as a certification process for hospitality and dining quality but is now evolving into a broader performance improvement platform for tourism businesses.

The initiative aims to enhance competitiveness and market position by supporting participating businesses in aligning with evolving consumer expectations and sustainability goals.

Data from the “Guglielmo Tagliacarne” Chamber of Commerce Study Center was also released during the event, revealing strong growth in the local tourism sector.

In Pescara, tourist presence rose 39.28% over 2019 levels, the second-highest increase in Italy, while the region also saw a rise in accommodation density on digital platforms, and tourism’s contribution to the local economy now exceeds the national average.

Chieti followed with a 30.42% increase in tourist presence, placing it eighth nationally for growth. The area is also seeing more balanced tourist flows throughout the year, as reflected in its stable monthly concentration index.

Despite the progress, both provinces still trail behind the national average in tourist density and accommodation occupancy rates.

For outdoor hospitality operators and campground managers, these findings offer a clear picture of both opportunities and challenges in the region.

The performance of Camping Dimore Montane, particularly its dual recognition for quality and sustainability, demonstrates how aligning with structured certification programs can boost reputation and differentiate businesses in a competitive market.

With increased demand for environmentally conscious travel and recognition systems like Ospitalità Italiana providing a formal framework, the path forward for glamping resorts, RV parks, and campgrounds in Abruzzo may well be guided by sustainability, service standards, and local engagement.
