Plans Submitted for 31-Pitch Caravan Site Near Bawnacre Centre

A planning application has been submitted for a proposed caravan park in Irvinestown, Northern Ireland, potentially adding new overnight accommodation options for visitors to the region.

The development, led by businessman George Deane, founder of Deane Public Works Ltd, would be located adjacent to the Bawnacre Centre and is expected to include 31 caravan pitches.

The plans also detail the addition of an amenity building, a storage shed, and a package treatment plant, according to the Fermanagh Herald.

The proposal comes amid ongoing calls for increased provision of motorhome, campervan, and caravan facilities in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area.

For several years, the council has faced public and industry pressure to address the lack of local overnight stay areas for touring vehicles. However, the Council has maintained its position of relying on the private sector for such infrastructure.

“The Council proactively engages with motorhome and camper van drivers to signpost them to that network of licensed sites,” the Council previously stated.

“Given the extent of private sector facilities which exist within the district, the Council has no plans to develop provision of overnight stay facilities for motorhomes, camper vans and caravans.”

Mr. Deane, whose construction firm has played a role in several major projects across Northern Ireland, appears to be advancing swiftly with the application.

Initial responses from statutory bodies such as NI Water and the Department for Infrastructure Rivers (DfI Rivers) have already been received, indicating early progress in the planning process.

If approved, the Irvinestown caravan park would contribute to the expansion of Northern Ireland’s outdoor hospitality infrastructure, especially at a time when demand for domestic and road-based tourism continues to grow.

For business owners in the caravan and glamping sectors, the proposal represents both a signal of market confidence and a case study in private-sector-led development in response to unmet regional accommodation needs.
