County Clare Caravan Park Applies for Major Expansion at Carrigaholt Site

Amigos Holiday Park in County Clare has submitted a planning application to expand its existing site in Rahona East, Carrigaholt.

The proposal, lodged with Clare County Council on October 14, seeks permission to develop nearly 50 new mobile home spaces, along with other accommodation and infrastructure upgrades.

According to the application, the expansion would include 48 new fully serviced mobile home spaces, seven fully serviced holiday pods, and 10 fully serviced camper van spaces.

The proposal also includes a designated area for camping facilities, which would diversify the park’s accommodation offerings and potentially increase visitor capacity during peak tourism periods.

As part of the submission, Amigos Holiday Park is also seeking permission to regularize certain existing works previously completed on the site without formal authorization.

The development plans include the installation of a new sewage treatment system with discharge to surface water, as well as the removal of 10 current mobile home spaces to ensure required separation distances are maintained from the new system.

All associated services and infrastructure upgrades are included in the proposal, according to the Irish Independent.

Clare County Council is expected to make a decision on the application by December 8. If approved, the project could contribute to the ongoing development of County Clare’s tourism infrastructure, particularly in the south-west region, which has seen increasing demand for modern and serviced holiday accommodations.

For outdoor hospitality operators and park owners, the proposal reflects a broader trend in the Irish caravan and camping sector—an emphasis on enhancing amenities, expanding capacity, and formalizing infrastructure to meet evolving visitor expectations and compliance requirements.

Investments like these can strengthen regional tourism networks, improve guest experiences, and align with local authority standards, offering insights into how existing operators might approach sustainable growth within the sector.
