Converted Aircraft Pods Open for Glamping in County Cavan

A new glamping destination featuring converted aircraft cabins officially opened in Killeshandra, County Cavan, last weekend, offering a unique accommodation experience overlooking the town lake.

Branded as AeroHeaven, the site is the result of a four-year effort by local resident Austin Masterson, who was inspired by feedback from regular guests at his nearby Lakeview Cottage.

“Anyone that’s in the house, they’re always talking about the view I have here,” said Masterson, referring to the elevated location overlooking the lake. He added that visitors would often tell him, “That would be an ideal location for glamping pods.”

The location, situated on a hill with panoramic views of the water and surrounding greenery, now hosts three glamping units crafted from former aircraft fuselages.

Masterson, who previously served in the army and had experience jumping from planes, incorporated elements of aviation into the project as a personal homage. “This is completely different,” he told The Anglo-Celt.

Construction on the site began in January 2025, and bookings opened following the official launch on Friday, July 26.

Each pod retains original aircraft design elements such as curved roofs, compact windows with sliding shutters, and external airline branding. Inside, the pods offer full furnishings, a kitchenette, LED lighting, Bluetooth speakers, and private hot tubs.

The site is marketed as a self-catering retreat suited for both nature lovers and those seeking novelty.

Fishing is available on the lake, and walking routes like the Killeshandra Camino and nearby Killykeen Forest Park add outdoor appeal.

Guests also have access to a shared indoor sauna and communal hot tub facilities, with plans to expand offerings to include local bookings for afternoon tea packages.

Austin Masterson and his daughter Fiona, who co-manages the business, expressed gratitude to O’Reilly O’Byrne Construction, the local community, and the LEADER programme for their support.

They confirmed that the site is open year-round, with increasing discounts offered for extended stays.

For outdoor hospitality operators, AeroHeaven offers a case study in creative accommodation concepts, demonstrating how underused transportation assets can be repurposed into high-interest lodging.

This approach taps into glamping’s experiential travel trend while maximizing location advantages—factors that could influence design and marketing decisions for similar ventures.
