Citroën is once again demonstrating its flair for unconventional automotive design with the unveiling of the ELO, an unusual concept van that blends adventure, work, and leisure in a compact, modular package.
According to an article by Road and Track, while the French brand is better known for its conventional hatchbacks, crossovers, and vans in its home market, the ELO represents a bold departure into playful and highly functional design.
The name ELO is a curious abbreviation for “Rest, Play, and Work,” taking the second letter of each word — a quirky approach that mirrors the van’s unconventional styling.
Citroën describes the ELO as a “bubble of freshness and energy,” with a uniquely shaped roof and a small footprint intended to make it at home in both urban environments and outdoor settings.
Inside, the van seats four to six passengers in an unusual configuration centered around a McLaren F1-style driving seat.
This central seat can pivot to face the other occupants when the vehicle is stationary, transforming the cabin into a flexible social or workspace.
Beyond seating, the ELO concept offers sleeping space for two, functions as a power supply, and even doubles as a “home cinema room,” demonstrating the vehicle’s multifunctional ambitions.
Although the ELO remains a concept vehicle, Citroën frames it as a “laboratory of ideas,” showcasing the brand’s interest in modularity, compact adventure vehicles, and imaginative interior layouts.
Features such as the central swivel seat and multi-use cabin could pave the way for future production models that combine city practicality with off-grid adventure capabilities.
