East Riding Council Approves Refurbishment of Fire-Damaged Patrington Haven Leisure Park

East Riding Council has approved an application to refurbish parts of Patrington Haven Leisure Park, a holiday resort in East Yorkshire that sustained significant smoke damage following a fire on April 22, 2024.

The incident affected the majority of the site, which includes 487 static caravans, sparing only the on-site gym, according to submitted planning documents.

The approved development plan includes the remodeling and reconfiguration of areas most heavily damaged in the fire.

The proposal also incorporates a modest extension and draft lobby to improve guest access and usability.

In addition to rebuilding efforts, the applicant sought and received permission to install solar panels on the building’s roof, a move aimed at enhancing the site’s energy efficiency.

Patrington Haven Leisure Park covers approximately 16 hectares and is located about two kilometers southwest of the village of Patrington.

According to planning documents, the holiday park plays “a key component to the local leisure and tourism offering along the East Coast and [is] essential to the prosperity of Patrington.”

Despite the extent of the fire damage, the plans confirm that there will be no changes to the number of staff or occupancy levels at the site.

According to a report by HullLive, the business will continue to operate with eight full-time staff members and twelve part-time employees, maintaining its current capacity and employment structure.

The planning application also included a request to extend the site’s operating hours. The updated schedule allows the leisure facilities to open from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and until 7:00 p.m. on weekends.

The restaurant, bar, and café areas will be permitted to operate daily from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.

For operators and business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector, this redevelopment reflects a broader trend of investing in energy-efficient infrastructure while preserving the operational integrity of sites that contribute to regional tourism economies.

The approval signals the local government’s continued support for leisure parks as economic drivers and offers a potential model for businesses navigating post-incident recovery while integrating sustainable improvements.
