Walt Disney World has expanded its accommodation offerings with the official opening of The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, a development positioned within the broader outdoor hospitality sector as an upscale glamping option.

The new cabins are located at the longstanding Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, which has been operating since 1971 across 750 acres of pine and cypress forest near Bay Lake in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Historically catering to tent campers and RV travelers, the resort now adds a more structured, amenity-rich lodging option targeting families who want to remain immersed in nature while still enjoying theme park access.

As part of the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) portfolio, more than 350 new cabins are in development. While membership offers exclusive benefits, non-members are also able to book the accommodations, which currently average $469 per night.

According to Daily Mail, each cabin sleeps up to six guests, includes a full kitchen, a walk-in shower, and vaulted ceilings, and is pet-friendly. Additional interior features include air conditioning, bunk beds with sleeping-bag-style blankets, and wood finishes selected by Disney Imagineers.

Outdoor amenities further enhance the glamping-style experience. Guests can take part in nightly activities such as a Chip and Dale campfire sing-along, s’more roasting using Disney-branded kits, and outdoor movie screenings.

Recreation options also include kayaking, fishing, archery, and horseback riding, though these are not included in the cabin rental cost.

Dining and provisions are available through on-site grocery trading posts, fast-casual eateries, and the longstanding Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue dinner theater, which recently marked its 50th anniversary.

Social media influencers, such as the Donnelly family — who share family-oriented content with over one million YouTube followers — have showcased their stays at the new cabins.

The family documented their experience enjoying activities like arts and crafts and golf cart rides, while referring to themselves as “Disney nerds and fanatics.” Their visit illustrates the appeal of the new accommodations to families looking for a hybrid experience that blends theme park proximity with nature-focused lodging.

For professionals in the outdoor hospitality industry, Disney’s development serves as a case study in integrating high-end glamping into an established campground environment.

The mix of rustic ambiance, modern convenience, and branded entertainment may provide strategic insights for campground and resort operators considering expansion into premium accommodation segments.

The ability to serve both existing members and the general public also broadens market reach without alienating core guests.
