Kampgrounds of America Expands with Opening of Moose Jaw KOA Journey to Enhance Local Tourism and Community Engagement

Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA) has announced the addition of the Moose Jaw KOA Journey to its network of more than 500 campgrounds across the United States and Canada.

Situated in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the campground is located just off Highway #1 and near the city’s downtown district.

The campground is part of KOA’s “Journey” brand, which caters to road travelers seeking ease of access and essential amenities. These campgrounds typically offer long pull-thru RV sites, after-hours check-in, and a selection of RV supplies designed to accommodate overnight and short-term stays.

Lance Kopan, a member of the ownership group and a lifelong Saskatchewan resident, is leading efforts to position the campground as a destination that contributes to Moose Jaw’s tourism economy and fosters a stronger connection between visitors and the surrounding community.

“We’re thrilled to join the KOA family and help showcase Moose Jaw as the gem that it is,” said Kopan. “Our hope is to create a campground where travelers feel at home, make memories, and are inspired to explore all the magic our city has to offer.”

The Moose Jaw KOA Journey currently offers RV accommodations and basic camping amenities.

Looking ahead, the ownership group has outlined a development plan that includes the addition of a natural gas fireplace, an ice cream shop, and a distinctive upside-down house installation. There are also aspirations to host local events such as farmers’ markets and car shows, further integrating the campground with the local economy and cultural landscape.

According to KOA’s 2024 Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers collectively spent $61 billion in local economies last year.

The average daily spend per camper was reported at $200. A growing number of campers are seeking regional cultural experiences, with 27% expressing interest in visiting small towns and another 27% citing food tourism as a key motivator.

The Moose Jaw KOA Journey is open year-round and is located at 955 Thatcher Drive NE. Reservations can be made through the KOA website, KOA App, or by calling 306-693-8888.
