Ontario’s Nature’s Harmony Ecolodge Blends Eco-Living with Guest Comfort

Nature’s Harmony Ecolodge in Mattawa, Ontario, has developed into a well-established off-grid destination over the past 16 years, offering accommodations and experiences that merge sustainability with outdoor recreation.

The ecolodge is located on 485 acres overlooking the Laurentian Mountains and provides a variety of lodging options, including log cabins, geodomes, yurts, a canvas tent, and a small number of camping sites.

Each unit is equipped with eco-friendly amenities such as composting toilets and access to solar-heated showers.

On-site features include a wood-fired sauna, a tubing park in the winter, more than 20 kilometers of private trails, and direct access to Bang’s Bay and the Ottawa River for paddling and water-based activities.

Owners Jennifer and Tzach founded the ecolodge after meeting abroad in 2002 during their travels.

Following years of independent exploration, the couple married in 2006 and began working toward their shared vision of creating an off-grid, environmentally conscious destination.

“We wanted to live a green lifestyle. We wanted to create and share the type of environment that we enjoyed most while traveling. We wanted to continue to meet new people. We wanted to be close to nature. And most importantly, we wanted to make a difference,” they recalled on their website.

The ecolodge officially began its operations after the couple purchased their Mattawa property in 2006.

Since then, the business has expanded gradually. In 2018, Jennifer left her corporate position to dedicate her time fully to the enterprise, enabling further development and preparing for growth.

For outdoor hospitality professionals, Nature’s Harmony represents an example of how personal vision, sustainability, and diversification of amenities can form the foundation of a long-term business strategy.

The range of accommodations allows the lodge to serve couples, families, and groups, while the addition of seasonal activities such as tubing and water sports increases year-round appeal.

Their use of eco-showers, composting toilets, and natural spring water highlights an approach that balances guest comfort with environmentally responsible practices.

Nature’s Harmony demonstrates how boutique operators can carve out a niche by blending experiential tourism with eco-conscious infrastructure.

Its trajectory also reflects the challenges and rewards of pursuing expansion in a competitive hospitality market while staying true to an environmentally focused mission.
