Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has officially added the Truro/Tidal Bore KOA Holiday to its portfolio of over 500 campgrounds across North America, following a substantial redevelopment led by new owners Steve Dinham and Jen Vornbrock.
The campground, located in Glenholme, Nova Scotia, opened May 15, and marks the couple’s first KOA-branded venture after two decades in hospitality.
The site, previously known as Elm River RV Park, has undergone a significant transformation to meet KOA Holiday standards. Positioned near Truro and the Bay of Fundy—home to the world’s highest tides and the tidal bore—the property is designed to attract regional travelers seeking both nature and cultural tourism.
Dinham and Vornbrock, who formerly operated the Monkey Tree Pub and Stake Restaurant in Yellowknife, said their decision to invest in the campground stemmed from a cross-country RV trip they took with their children in 2023.
“Now, our goal is to leverage our expertise in customer-centric operations to create a welcoming space where families and adventurers can connect with both nature and local culture,” they said.
Renovations include the addition of two Deluxe Cabins, six glamping-style bunkies, five KOA Patio RV Sites, and three Paw Pen Patio Sites designed for campers with pets.
The site also features a heated pool, pirate ship-themed playground, updated Kids Club, and 40 fire rings handcrafted by a local artist.
The entrance to the campground now includes a 7-foot lighthouse designed by artisans from a Nova Scotia fishing village.
The camp store has also been upgraded to include local artisan goods, apparel, and camping essentials.
An all-season rental home with private amenities is available year-round, extending the campground’s service beyond the typical May-to-October operating window.
Dinham and Vornbrock emphasized their commitment to community involvement and local sourcing.
“From hiring local contractors to showcasing Nova Scotia craftsmanship, we want to make this campground a true community asset,” they said.
KOA Holiday campgrounds are designed to serve as destination base camps, providing amenities such as full-service RV sites with KOA Patios and Deluxe Cabins with full bathrooms.
