Nova Scotia Provincial Parks to Close Ahead of Hurricane Fiona’s Landfall

Ahead of hurricane Fiona’s landfall, all Nova Scotia (Canada) provincial campgrounds, beaches, and day-use parks, as well as provincial hiking and ATV trails, will close at noon today, Friday.

According to the Nova Scotia Provincial Parks website, campers who have made campsite reservations will be notified by the parks reservation agency to arrange a full refund.

“All provincial campgrounds, beaches, and day-use parks will close at 12 p.m. noon on Friday, September 23, because of severe weather conditions expected from Hurricane Fiona,” the Nova Scotia Provincial Parks website post indicates.

Once it is safe to do so, staff will have to assess the park for damage and address any safety concerns prior to reopening.

“Full refunds will be given for campsite reservations affected by the closure. All camping reservations between Friday, September 23 and Sunday, September 25 will automatically be canceled and a refund issued within three to five business days,” the Nova Scotia Provincial Parks website post reads.

The province urges campers and park goers to visit the provincial parks’ website and social media accounts for updates.

Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site and Kejimkujik Seaside will also be closing today.
