The Northwest Territories‘ newest public campground, North Arm Territorial Park, will host a grand opening ceremony on July 16. The campground, located near kilometer 232 along Highway 3, just south of Behchokǫ̀, serves as the newest addition to the region’s outdoor recreation facilities.

From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees will be treated to tours of the park’s facilities and refreshments, accompanied by performances from local drummers. This opening event highlights the community’s commitment to enhancing outdoor recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

Free shuttle services will be provided to facilitate attendance, according to an article published by Cabin Radio. Shuttles will depart from the Legislative Assembly in Yellowknife at 9:30 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m.

Another departure from the Scotia Centre in Yellowknife is scheduled for 9:40 a.m., with the same return time. Additionally, shuttles will run from the Nishi Khon Building in Behchokǫ̀ at 10 a.m. and 10:40 a.m., returning at 1 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. Parking at the campground will be limited, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the provided shuttle services.

The North Arm Territorial Park campground, which officially opened to visitors on May 15, boasts 15 powered campsites, an accessible playground, a kitchen shelter, and outhouses. This variety of amenities ensures a comfortable and inclusive experience for all visitors, catering to families and individuals with diverse needs.

Adjacent to the campground, the North Arm Territorial Park day-use area offers a picturesque retreat along the shores of Great Slave Lake. Visitors can enjoy a break from driving and the contrasting landscapes of the Mackenzie lowlands and the Canadian Shield.

This day-use area is also a prime waterfowl nesting site, adding to its appeal for nature enthusiasts. Additionally, Highway 3 leads to Yellowknife, where various amenities, including shopping, restaurants, and hotels, are available.

The park is expected to attract a diverse group of visitors, from residents to tourists exploring the natural beauty of the Northwest Territories.

Another aspect of the park is outdoor opportunities. NWT Parks offers a variety of routes showcasing the natural beauty and diverse landscapes of the Northwest Territories. The Waterfalls Route features numerous waterfalls, rivers, and lakes, along with excellent hiking trails, sandy beaches, and great fishing spots.

In addition, the Heritage Route extends northwest to Fort Simpson and Wrigley, passing through a region of forested hills, mountains, and clear lakes.
