Enjoy a Spooky Retreat with Rockwood Park’s Enhanced Haunted Campground

Rockwood Park’s Haunted Campground in Saint John, New Brunswick (Canada) is back for a second season, promising a spookier experience than before. As autumn leaves rustle and the chill of the season sets in, the campground transforms into a realm of frights and delights.

Joel Skogman, the organizer, has taken feedback from the inaugural year to heart.“We’ve made it longer and we have definitely made it scarier. There is a lot more stuff that (is) going to go on, and we have made some of the areas a little more mazey because people wanted that,” he says, ensuring that visitors get a thrilling experience. The enhancements include more intricate mazes and a plethora of eerie attractions.

The Haunted Walk, a significant attraction, is hosted by the Saint John Horticultural Association. It covers a vast portion of the campground, leading visitors through various spine-chilling areas. From graveyards to haunted houses, there’s no shortage of scares.

A notable addition this year is the scary zoo, paying tribute to the Cherry Brook Zoo that closed its doors in 2020. As visitors navigate the campground, they’ll also encounter scream-worthy scare actors, ready to give them a fright at every turn.

The haunted tour is open to all until October 29. For those who prefer a milder experience, there’s a low-scare option between 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. However, as darkness engulfs the park post 7 p.m., Skogman warns, “you came for the scare time, and we are going to scare you.”

Beyond the scares, Rockwood Park Campground offers a serene escape, surrounded by nature’s beauty. It’s a place where visitors can indulge in outdoor activities, from boating to hiking, making it a perfect blend of thrill and tranquility.

The Haunted Campground is not just about scares; it’s also about community. All proceeds from the event go towards the Saint John Horticultural Association’s care of the Saint John Public Gardens. Additionally, the campground is collecting donations for the North End Food Bank, emphasizing the spirit of giving.

As the Haunted Campground continues to evolve, it remains a testament to the community’s spirit and creativity. It’s a place where memories are made, where laughter and screams echo in harmony, and where every corner holds a surprise.

Rockwood Park’s Haunted Campground offers a unique blend of nature and spookiness. As it returns for its second year, it promises an experience that’s both thrilling and memorable, all while supporting worthy causes. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just looking for a fun autumn activity, the Haunted Campground awaits.
