Camping season looks a little different across the province of Manitoba (Canada).
A few Manitoba’s provincial campgrounds are scheduled to open soon after flood-related closures. However, some campground closures have been extended.
As per a report, a release issued on Wednesday by the Government of Manitoba said the Tulabi Falls campground in Nopiming Provincial Park would open from June 3. However, some closures of the site are still in effect. Provincial Road (PR) 314 remains closed throughout the park, while all other trails, campgrounds, and backcountry canoe routes within Nopiming Provincial Park remain closed.
All campgrounds in Duck Mountain Provincial Park are scheduled to open on June 3. The campgrounds are only accessible via PR 367 from the west and PR 366 from the north.
The government also stated that Rainbow Beach Provincial Park will remain closed until June 9 because of this week’s rainstorm and wind over Dauphin Lake.
The province advises people to travel to Elk Island Provincial Park as there is high water and strong waves on the lake. Access to vehicles is blocked at Patricia Beach Provincial Park due to the water on the road, and boat launch areas are closed at Grand Beach, Winnipeg Beach, and Watchorn Provincial Parks.
All lakes in the Whiteshell Provincial Park are higher than average from the spring’s heavy rainfall. The closure and evacuation notice for the northern Whiteshell area is still in effect. The closure areas include Sylvia Lake, Eleanor Lake, Otter Falls, Dorothy Lake, Barrier Bay, Nutimik Lake, and Betula Lake.
Other campgrounds with extended closures are Bird Lake, Black Lake, Beresford, Shoe Lake, Otter Falls, Opapiskaw, Dorothy Lake, Nutimik Lake, Betula Lake, and White Lake campgrounds.
The province has advised that closures could be extended if flooding and wet conditions persist. Affected seasonal campers and those who have reservations will be notified, and their fees will be refunded. Campers should not pre-emptively cancel reservations before they are notified of closure because cancellation policies will apply.
