Kampgrounds of America (KOA) announced that Emily Lawless and Spencer Dougay have acquired the Borden/Summerside KOA Journey in Prince Edward Island, with plans to expand guest programming and introduce future campground enhancements at the property.
The campground, located near the Confederation Bridge at 23714 Trans Canada Highway, serves as an entry point for travelers arriving in Prince Edward Island and provides access to beaches, coastal communities, seafood restaurants and other attractions across the region.
Lawless said the new owners plan to position the campground as a repeat destination for travelers visiting the island.
“We immediately saw the potential for this campground to become more than just a place to stay. We want it to be a destination people return to year after year,” Emily Lawless, owner of the Borden/Summerside KOA Journey, said in a press release.
Lawless said the ownership group intends to focus on community-oriented programming and local engagement.
“Prince Edward Island has such a strong sense of community and hospitality, and we’re excited to create a campground experience that reflects that through live music, themed events, family-friendly activities, and meaningful connections with both travelers and locals,” Lawless said.
The Borden/Summerside KOA Journey currently offers RV sites, a KampK9 dog park, recreational amenities and community gathering areas.
Under the new ownership, the campground plans to add themed weekends, trivia nights, line dancing, jam sessions and live music featuring local performers.
Future development plans for the campground include upgraded shared spaces, expanded recreational amenities, additional premium accommodations and environmental initiatives designed to complement the surrounding landscape of Prince Edward Island.
The campground operates as part of its KOA Journey brand, which focuses on roadside accommodations for travelers seeking convenient overnight stays with amenities such as pull-thru RV sites, after-hours check-in and RV supplies.
The Borden/Summerside KOA Journey is one of more than 500 KOA campgrounds operating across the United States and Canada. The campground is open for the 2026 season from May 15 through Oct. 4.
According to KOA’s annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers contributed $66 billion to local economies in 2025, while the average camper spent more than $200 daily during camping trips.
The report also stated that 33% of campers expressed interest in visiting small towns and 38% were drawn to historic sites.
