Edges Sideroad Springs Highlights Demand for Eco-Friendly Camping

Edges Sideroad Springs, a rural property in West Grey, Ontario, has earned recognition as one of the best Hipcamps to visit in both 2024 and 2025, underscoring its growing popularity among travelers seeking unique outdoor stays.

The property, owned for 19 years by its current operators, was once a gravel pit before being rehabilitated in 2020 into a diversified landscape that now combines agricultural use, beekeeping, and eco-oriented camping. A natural spring feeds two on-site streams, serving as one of the property’s defining features.

The 65-acre site features a mix of accommodations, including the “Edges Sideroad A-Frame,” located about two hours from Toronto.

The small, winterized cabin sleeps up to four guests and offers basic amenities, a firepit, and an outhouse. It sits within reach of several provincial parks such as Sauble Falls, Duncan Escarpment, and MacGregor Point, with nearby waterfalls including McGowan’s, Hogs, and Eugenia Falls.

“We look forward to hosting you,” the owners said in their listing, reflecting the personal approach that has likely contributed to the site’s strong guest reception.

In addition to the cabin, Edges Sideroad Springs offers multiple tent sites with varied settings, such as “Nestled Among the Cedars,” “Serenity by the Pond,” and “Bubbling Spring.”

Each site allows campfires and pets, and provides pit toilets, picnic tables, and potable water access. While the offerings are intentionally simple—there are no showers, Wi-Fi, or cooking facilities—the focus is on nature immersion and tranquility.

For outdoor hospitality operators, the success of Edges Sideroad Springs provides an example of how former industrial or agricultural land can be converted into low-impact, profitable tourism ventures.

The property’s recognition by Hipcamp highlights the growing consumer interest in rural retreats that emphasize sustainability, minimal infrastructure, and a connection to nature.

The use of existing land features, such as the natural spring and agricultural components, demonstrates how operators can diversify land use while catering to modern campers seeking authentic outdoor experiences.
