DexKo Global Inc. Announces Acquisition of City Spring Ltd.

DexKo Global Inc., a manufacturer of highly engineered trailer running gear, chassis assemblies, and related components, announced the acquisition of City Spring Ltd. and its affiliates, Pacific Spring & Axle Ltd., and Spring Service Ltd., through its subsidiary Dexter Axle Company LLC. This move marks an expansion for DexKo Global Inc. in the Canadian market, aiming to enhance its service offerings in the trailer and truck industries.

“The diversity of the City Spring business was a key factor in this strategic acquisition,” Adam Dexter, CEO of Dexter, said, as quoted in a press release.

City Spring Ltd., established in 1956 by Pep and Jim Bassani, has grown from its Edmonton, Alberta roots to include four locations across Western Canada. The company specializes in the distribution of truck and trailer parts, axle and spring manufacturing, and providing service for trucks and trailers.

“Dexter identified a need to grow its business in Canada to support the trailer and truck industries. The addition of the City Spring team, locations, and customers will help build out the network in Canada. We truly feel this is an excellent fit for both the employees and customers at City Spring and Dexter,” Dexter said.

Its operations in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta, are known for their distribution and manufacturing capabilities, while the Regina, Saskatchewan, and Langley, British Columbia, locations focus on service and parts distribution, respectively.

Dexter, a subsidiary of DexKo Global Inc., was established in 1960 and is headquartered in Elkhart, Indiana. The company boasts a workforce of over 3,800 across the U.S. and Canada and operates more than 20 manufacturing facilities and 50 specialty distribution locations.

“My father, Jim Bassani, started City Spring & Axle Ltd. in 1956 with a vision to offer high-quality spring and suspension parts and service,” Shirley Kosick, a City Spring shareholder, said.

Dexter is recognized for its reliability and service to various industries, including utility trailers, recreational vehicles, marine, heavy-duty, agricultural, and specialty equipment sectors.

“Recognizing the value of new business opportunities, City Spring expanded to Regina, Saskatchewan; Langley, British Columbia; and Calgary, Alberta. As the business grew and to fulfill customers’ needs, City Spring became a leading manufacturer and distributor of axles in Western Canada. Jim made a strong mark on the industry as a fair-minded and compassionate employer with high standards for workmanship and customer service. We feel Dexter is an excellent partner to take over my father’s business legacy,” Kosick said.

Fred Bentley, CEO of DexKo Global, underscored the acquisition’s strategic fit within the company’s broader goals of expanding in Canada.
